by:susansgirls

Using brushes is an easy way of adding that little something extra to your photos. Start off by adding different brushes to your program. This is a good site for downloading free brushes

Whether itís designing birthday party invitations or enhancing a photo, it is now easier than ever to create remarkably good looking work through the power of your computer. Hereís a secret that many top notch graphic designers wonít tell you Ė one of the best ways to make a great looking design with Adobe Photoshop is by using photoshop brushes.

One of the most effective ways to add some flourish to your designs is by using a wide array of brushes. Photoshop brushes are essentially tools that can be used in the brush palette of adobe photoshop. Each photoshop brush has a specific design or an effect that can liven up the most drab project. From grunge effects to techno swirls to a soft cloud effect to Polaroid framing styles, you can obtain all of these different looks with the right photoshop brush.

1....Open a blank document and place a pic. im using a backshot of Alyshia for this one.

2....Cut out your subject (Alyshia in mine) and delete the background of the pic. When you are left with just your subject, go to Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast.

3....Drag the Brightness lever as far to the left as you can go. Then drag the Contrast lever over to the right. You should be left with something like this depending on the pic you used.

4....So now you need to add a layer between the Background layer and Layer 1. Rename this layer "WATER".
Click on your brushes and choose a water brush. There are many different ones to choose from so experiment before you make your final choice.

5....Next click on the Paint Bucket Tool and choose a blue colour.
Use this colour on your WATER layer. This combines your water and sky.

6....Next go back to your brushes and choose a cloud brush. Use either white or grey for colour. Again there are many to choose from so experiment. Use the cloud brush on the WATER layer as with the sky.

7....Add another layer to the top of your layer pallette. Go to your brushes and choose a soft, round brush. Choose white as your colour. This will be used as the sun.

8....Now go to fiters and select Render>Lens Flare and place the cursor on the sun. This will give a sun ray effect.

9....Flatten the image and add a frame, border etc.
